Spanish Buzz men’s t-shirt design, based on the scene in Toy Story 3 where Andy’s toy’s accidentally switch Buzz to Spanish mode. The illustration is based off of a sequence that was animated by Carlos Baena. Sold exclusively at the Pixar Studio Store.

Change-Point: Adaptive Design Solutions For a Shifting Cultural Economy (MFA Thesis Book)

This hand-bound, hardback prototype book uses infographics, iconography, photography and the findings of my MFA thesis study to illustrate the impact that the 2008 recession had on the American consumer consciousness. The book identifies twelve themes that appeal to the emerging “citizen” consumer and suggests ways that designers in the new cultural economy can appeal to and fulfill the desires of their changing audience. The rainbow color scheme exemplifies the overall tone of optimism expressed in the study’s conclusions despite the gravity of the subject matter.

This informational booklet was created to raise awareness about Celiac Disease, a prevalent digestive disorder that has gone widely undetected in Americans for decades and renders individuals intolerant to gluten. If undiagnosed, a person with Celiac Disease who continues to ingest gluten can unknowingly deprive their body of nutrients which can cause a host of other serious health problems, some of which can be fatal.

The objective of this campaign is to visually convey how commonly this disease goes undiagnosed, using transparent red acetate to initially hide the red elements printed in the book – surprising readers with a reveal of hidden type and graphics when they look beneath the resin sheets. The color-coordinated information graphics within the booklet allow readers to visualize what would otherwise be abstract statistics about this “invisible epidemic.”

Social Awareness Course

Winner of a 2009 Student Logo Design ADDY Award, this piece was designed to raise awareness on the difficulties faced by American foster children who so rarely find a loving, permanent home and are often repeatedly returned to the system, leaving them “sold short” of a stable upbringing. The mailer is intended to surprise it’s parent-aged recipients by taking the form of product packaging, complete with a user-manual for the commodified “Foster Katie.” The piece also provides a brief history of Katie’s time in foster care along with some powerful statistics about the continued displacement of the American foster child before calling on the reader to consider becoming a permanent parent to a child in need.

The Mojito Collection is a high-end bartending kit that contains all the necessary utensils required to make the mojito: a popular Cuban drink that consists of limes, mint and white rum. The products incorporated into the kit are a shaker, muddler, jigger, mint flavored sugar tin, two cocktail glasses, ice tongs, a cutting board and knife. To promote sustainability and reduce waste, the packaging for The Mojito Collection was designed with multiple second uses. The base of the package is not only equipped for safe transportation of the products but also functions as a counter-top display wrack, and the lid doubles as an ice bucket. The kit also comes with an informational booklet that offers a brief look at the drink’s origins, descriptions of the various bartending utensils and various mojito recipes.
